berlin recap

ah! i’m home. from two whole weeks in berlin. sorry for the hiatus - i thought i’d be able to post, but our internet was spotty and wouldn’t let me upload anything.

plus, i was BUSY! a quick recap by bullets:

  • 1 new year celebrated!
  • 1 class DONE! it was great. we spent every day visiting museums, talking to professionals, and exploring the history of germany through exhibitions and architecture. i knew i loved museums, but i forgot how much i loved history and design too.
  • 13 new pals. my classmates were awesome - so smart and interesting and great to travel with. they brought so many perspectives to the discussion.
  • 21 museums visited. i saw everything from nefertititi to the pergamon altar to the ishtar gate to boticelli’s venus to rembrandt’s self portraits to the berlin wall to the SS headquarters to andy’s mao to street art. i met curators, historians, directors, researchers, and writers.
  • learned about 20 words of german. german is hard.
  • broke in one new coat and pair of boots. recommend both!
  • countless delicious meals. turns out germany’s cooks GET ME. i ate potatoes in a dozen forms, venison, wild boar, blood sausages, veal schnitzel, spatezle, currywurst, falafel, doner kebab…it was so freaking good.
  • the beer! we had at least three beers a night (when in rome?)…definitely a habit i’m going to miss (related: i need a gym).
  • got over 1 bad cold. i bought medicine at one point by judging what ailments the people on the packaging seemed to have. kind of a big risk in hindsight.
  • 3 books completed.
  • 1 visit to potsdam.
  • anniversary observed.
  • homecoming.

i’m honestly bummed to be back. i loved berlin, and could see myself there for a long time. alas, i’m back at work.
